“Can you make a completely customised ULD for our special cargo?” is probably one of our favourite questions to get. Our answer is always yes, even if, at first glance, we’re not sure exactly how to do it. Some of our most innovative ULD designs started life as a seemingly impossible air cargo handling scenario.

Heavy machines, high-value items, ready to deploy equipment and extremely sensitive materials have unique characteristics and/or regulatory requirements. As such, these types of air cargo pose huge operational challenges. Top of the list is creating a custom-made container that can accommodate their distinctive features and offer aircraft compatibility.

 

Common types of special cargo

Our customised ULDs are designed to meet the very specific conditions of special cargo. And the longer the list of conditions, the more enthusiastic we become in finding you a solution. Of course, what makes any cargo ‘special’ varies, but these are
the features we come across most often.

Oversized cargo
When your cargo is too big to fit into a regular ULD, we’ll build you a container that fits it like a glove. It will also be as light as possible, strong enough to withstand the rigours of multi-modal transportation and simple enough for easy repair and maintenance.
Heavy cargo

Extremely heavy cargo affects an aircraft’s floor and linear loading limits, which are critical for structural and flight safety. Load shoring is the traditional solution, but that comes with many complications.

Our solution is to give your ULD an integral optimised base structure that bears the weight of your cargo, provides more internal volume and simplifies handling.

Temperature-sensitive cargo

Certain machines and high-tech equipment (like laboratory measuring instruments) have very specific temperature requirements. To transport these kinds of cargo, containers must provide a constant temperature range.

Standard air cargo containers cannot guarantee that. We fit our containers with exceptional insulation, cooling and control technology to ensure perfect temperature and atmospheric conditions throughout the entire journey.

Fragile and valuable cargo
Air freight has to endure various handling and environmental conditions as it moves from A to B, but bumps, dust, vibration and pressure differentials can damage extremely vulnerable cargo. Our team of experts can design specific ULD functionality that standard solutions just don’t offer.
Time-sensitive cargo

When time is of the essence, a customised container can make all the difference. Whether you’re dispatching a team of specialists to a remote disaster area, or an emergency tool kit to an Aircraft on Ground (AOG) we can build you a container that ensures you’re always ready to deploy.
