What is an AKE container?

An AKE is a certified aircraft container used to transport baggage and cargo in the lower deck of an aircraft. It is a type of Unit Load Device (ULD) and is also commonly referred to as an LD3 container.

Is an AKE the same as an LD3 container?

Yes. LD3 is the ATA designation, while AKE is the IATA identification code commonly used for this container type.

How much does the VRR AKE weigh?

The VRR AKE starts at 54 kg (119 lb), depending on the configuration. Its lightweight design helps reduce the weight carried on every flight, contributing to lower fuel consumption and environmental impact.

Is the VRR AKE fire-resistant?

Yes. Class A fire resistance comes as standard on every VRR AKE, providing six hours of fire containment. The AKE is certified to ETSO-C90d and tested according to SAE AS8992.

Is fire resistance optional on the VRR AKE?

Class A fire resistance comes as standard on every VRR AKE. Safety shouldn't be an upgrade. That's why six hours of fire containment is built into the AKE from the start, at no additional cost. Because when it comes to safety, why choose?

What are the dimensions of the VRR AKE container?

The VRR AKE has a base size of 1561 x 1534 mm / 61.5 x 60.4 inch and external dimensions of 1993 x 1534 x 1613 mm / 78.4 x 60.4x 63.5 inch. The maximum gross weight is 1,588 kg (3,500 lb).

Which aircraft are compatible with an AKE/LD3 container?
