The HCU-6/E military pallet is, as the name suggests, used by the military to deploy its cargo in extreme situations. But did you know that this aluminium pallet is also suitable for civil applications?
A pallet that meets military and civil requirements
The palletized version of a military workhorse, which is also known as 463L or PBF pallet, is fully compatible with 463L cargo loading systems since they allow 108x88 inch pallet positions. Consequently, this hard-wearing pallet can be used on many civil aircraft.
The pallet’s dual compatibility is the reason that VRR’s HCU-6/E pallets are in line with military requirements* and certified according to the civil requirements - (E)TSO.
Let’s not forget that the military also uses civil aircraft to transport its equipment, so adaptability is essential. However, when used on civil aircraft, the pallet must be certified.
Clever design features that deliver strength and longevity
VRR has incorporated some unique technical and design features that give the HCU-6/E an exceptionally long life and minimum maintenance requirements.
Unlike standard HCU-6/E military pallets, which comprise a balsa wood core surrounded by a thin aluminium skin, we use a stringer-based aluminium core in between the top and bottom 7000 series alloy aluminium sheets. The stringers run crosswise and are interconnected with the top and bottom sheets to form a rigid platform.
This makes the pallet much stronger and much more durable. It also makes delamination - typically seen with balsa wood core pallets - a thing of the past. Other aircraft types may also be possible depending on the cargo loading and restraint system. Consult the Weight & Balance Manual or check the carrier's Operating Instructions.
Compatible with numerous military and civil aircraft
The HCU-6/E pallet is compatible with military aircraft types such as the C-130, C-5, C-17, KC-135, C-27, C-9, CH-47, KC-10 and civil aircraft such as B747, B737, BAe 146, MD80SF.
Other aircraft types may also be possible depending on the cargo loading and restraint system. Consult the Weight & Balance Manual or check the carrier's Operating Instructions.
