At the ULD CARE Conference 2025 in Copenhagen, the ULD Climate Impact Label was officially launched. During the event, the very first eight labels were presented to several leading ULD manufacturers, including AviusULD, Nordisk Aviation Products, PalNet GmbH Air Cargo Products, SATCO INC. and Taiwan Fylin Industrial.
The idea for a sustainability label originated two years ago, when Ben Lakerveld first proposed it during ULD CARE 2023. Since then, Innovation Engineer Louise Platell has worked closely with others in the ULD community to develop the label from idea to reality — officially launching it this month in Copenhagen.
The ULD Climate Impact Label provides a transparent and straightforward way to evaluate the environmental performance of Unit Load Devices. Each ULD receives a score from A++ to F, based on its weight — as weight directly influences fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions during air freight operations.
At this stage, the label applies only to AKE containers. Units under 50 kg fall into category A++, those between 50 and 55 kg into A+, and so on. In addition, the label displays information about material composition, availability of spare parts, and the manufacturer’s recycling initiatives.

By introducing a shared and measurable sustainability standard, the ULD Climate Impact Label helps the air cargo industry make more informed choices — and encourages all manufacturers to keep improving.
